{"id":5679,"date":"2025-05-07T22:05:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T22:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/village.longview.ab.ca\/wordpress\/?page_id=5679"},"modified":"2026-03-20T20:36:34","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T20:36:34","slug":"2025-municipal-election","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/village.longview.ab.ca\/wordpress\/2025-municipal-election\/","title":{"rendered":"2025 Municipal Election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 24pt;\"><strong>Elections<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Elections Act requires the following to be disclosed on the Village website:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/village.longview.ab.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/2026-Candidate-Financial-Disclosure-Documents.pdf\">2026 Candidate Financial Disclosure Documents<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 24pt;\"><strong>Register to Vote<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Voter Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You are eligible to vote if you can provide authorized identification which shows that you are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1&nbsp; At least 18 years old<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2&nbsp; A Canadian citizen, and<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>3&nbsp; A resident of the Village of Longview<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Register to Vote<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All voters must be on the permanent Electors Registry. To register to vote or check to see if you are registered to vote, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voterlink.ab.ca\/\"><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\"><strong>Voterlink<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Please note: Voterlink will be closed for registrations from June 11 to June 24.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2025 Municipal Election &#8211; Election Day is October 20, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nomination period starts January 1, 2025. Due to the office being closed on January 1, Notice of Intent to be nominated may be submitted starting January 2, 2025, during regular office hours. This form is required no matter when you file your nomination papers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nomination papers may be submitted starting January 7, 2025. Nomination papers must be filed in person at the Village of Longview Administration Office during regular business hours.&nbsp; Nomination papers received by mail will not be accepted.<\/p>\n<p>The nomination process includes completing all the required forms and obtaining signatures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nomination Period remains open until 12 noon on Nomination Day, Monday, September 22, 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Individuals planning to run in the 2025 municipal election can only accept campaign contributions and incur campaign expenses once their Notice of Intent Form is complete.<\/p>\n<p>Please check this website and the Information Handbooks regularly for updates, changes or new information.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\"><a style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\" href=\"http:\/\/village.longview.ab.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Notice-of-Nomination-Day-Longview-revised.pdf\"><strong>&nbsp;Notice of Nomination Day &#8211; Longview<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 24pt;\"><strong>Notice of Intent to Run<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As per the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) Section 147.22 an individual who intends to be nominated, or has been nominated, to run as a candidate for the municipal election must give written notice to the local jurisdiction in which the individual intends to be or has been nominated. A <a href=\"http:\/\/village.longview.ab.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1b-Notice-of-Intent-Village-of-Longview.pdf\"><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\"><strong>Notice of Intent Form<\/strong><\/span><\/a> has been provided to assist with filing; however, an email or written notice containing ALL information will be accepted.<\/p>\n<p>the full name, address and contact information of the individual;<br \/>\nthe address of the place or places where records of the individual are maintained and of the place to which communications may be addressed;<br \/>\nthe names and addresses of the financial institutions to be used by or on behalf of the individual as depositories for campaign contributions made to that individual; and&nbsp;<br \/>\nthe names of the signing authorities for each depository.<br \/>\nSubmit your form or written notice to the Returning Officer via email at&nbsp;<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/village.longview.ab.ca\/wordpress\/contact-us-2\/\">info@village.longview.ab.c<\/a>a<\/span><\/span><\/strong> or drop it off at the Administration Office during regular office hours.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 24pt;\">&nbsp;<strong>Check Your Eligibility<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>To be eligible to be nominated as a candidate and run in the 2025 election you must be:<\/p>\n<p>At least 18 years old on nomination day (September 22, 2025);<br \/>\nA Canadian Citizen;<br \/>\nA resident of The Village of Longview for six (6) consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day (September 22, 2025);&nbsp;<br \/>\nA resident of the Village of Longview on election day (October 20, 2025);<br \/>\nNot otherwise ineligible or disqualified under the&nbsp;<strong><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/village.longview.ab.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/5-Local-Authorities-Election-Act.pdf\">Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA)<\/a>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>There are no nomination fees for Village of Longview 2025 Municipal Election Candidates<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 24pt;\"><strong>Nomination Papers<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Nomination papers must be filed in person at the Village of Longview Administration Office during regular business hours. A candidate\u2019s five signatories must be residents of the Village of Longview and be eligible voters on the date that they sign the candidate\u2019s nomination papers. The Village of Longview suggests that each candidate obtain at least 10 signatures prior to submitting their nomination papers.
